Signs of Transmission Trouble

  • Slipping. Engine revs climb but the vehicle doesn't accelerate to match.
  • Delayed engagement. A pause or a clunk when you shift into Drive or Reverse.
  • Harsh, late or erratic shifts. Bangs into gear, flares between gears, or shifts at odd times.
  • Shudder at steady speeds. A vibration like driving over rumble strips, often at light throttle — commonly a torque converter clutch issue.
  • No reverse or no movement. The vehicle won't move in one or more gears.
  • Reddish fluid under the car. Most automatic transmission fluid is red when new; a leak lets the level drop and heat build.
  • Burning smell or dark, burnt fluid. A sign of overheating and fluid breakdown.
  • Warning light or “limp mode.” The computer locks the transmission in one gear to protect it.
  • Manual transmission problems. Clutch slipping, grinding into gear, or a clutch pedal that feels soft, stiff or sticks.

Diagnose First — It's Not Always a Rebuild

Modern automatic transmissions are computer-controlled, and plenty of shifting complaints come from low or degraded fluid, a leak, a faulty sensor or solenoid, wiring, or software — repairs that cost far less than a rebuild.

We check fluid level and condition, scan the transmission control module for codes, look at live data and drive the vehicle to confirm the symptom before recommending anything. If internal damage is confirmed, we'll walk you through repair and rebuild options and what each costs — including whether the repair makes sense on an older vehicle.

How every job works here: we diagnose first, quote before we touch it, and don't start until you approve the price. Walk-ins are welcome — call ahead for priority.

Transmission Work We Handle

Fluid Service

The correct fluid for your transmission. Many newer units have no dipstick and need a specific check-and-fill procedure.

Leak Repair

Pan gaskets, cooler lines, and axle or input shaft seals.

Electrical & Solenoids

Shift solenoids, speed sensors and wiring faults diagnosed and repaired.

Manual & Clutch Work

Slipping clutches, grinding gears and clutch hydraulics on manual transmissions.

Transmission Rebuilds

When internal parts have failed, a full rebuild with new wear components.

Drivability Checks

Not sure if it's the transmission or the engine? We sort that out before anything gets replaced.

Heat Is Your Transmission's Biggest Enemy

Texas summers, towing, heavy loads and stop-and-go traffic all raise transmission temperature, and heat is what breaks transmission fluid down. Following your manufacturer's fluid-service schedule — the severe-service schedule if you tow or sit in a lot of traffic — is the cheapest transmission insurance there is.

An overheating engine can cook a transmission too, since many share a cooler with the radiator. If your temperature gauge is creeping up, have the cooling system checked.

Transmission Repair FAQ

Should I get a transmission flush?

It depends on the vehicle and the fluid's condition. We follow the manufacturer's service recommendations and use the specified fluid. On a high-mileage transmission that has never been serviced, we'll talk through the pros and cons before changing anything.

Can I keep driving if my transmission is slipping?

We don't recommend it. Slipping creates heat and friction that can turn a smaller repair into a full rebuild. Call us and bring it in as soon as you can.

Do you work on manual transmissions?

Yes — automatic and manual.

How much does transmission repair cost?

Anything from a fluid service or a sensor to a full rebuild, which is why we diagnose first and quote the specific repair. Nothing starts until you approve the price.
